Description:

Subdural and subarachnoid hemorrhages are both types of bleeding in the brain, but they occur in different spaces: subdural hematoma involves bleeding between the dura and arachnoid membranes, while subarachnoid hemorrhage involves bleeding in the space between the arachnoid and pia mater. This presentation will provide an overview of these two intracranial hemorrhages, with a focus on clinical presentations, pathophysiology and acute management strategies. Participants will gain insights on the differences between these two hemorrhages including risk factors, imaging findings and differing

 

Learning Objectives:

Upon completion of this activity, the participant will be able to:

  1. Differentiate between subdural and subarachnoid hemorrhage.

  2. Identify imaging characteristics of hemorrhages using both CT and MRI. 

  3. Discuss acute medical and surgical strategies. 

  4. Apply current clinical guidelines for the management of this patient population.
